Colorado snowboarder dies at resort after apparent accident, officials say

A snowboarder died Sunday at a Colorado resort after attempting a jump without a helmet.

Tyler Hamm, 20, of Snowmass Village, was identified as the person killed at Snowmass Mountain Resort, the Aspen Times reported, citing the Pitkin County Coroner’s Office.

He was not wearing a helmet when he attempted the jump at Makaha Terrain Park, Aspen Skiing Co. spokesman Jeff Hanle said. No other details about the incident were released.

“Patrol responded immediately and found the man unresponsive with no pulse or breathing,” Hanle said, according to the Aspen Times. “They began advanced life-saving procedures. They were unable to re-establish a pulse and the man was pronounced dead by the Pitkin County Coroner.”

The park, which features about two dozen “intermediate and advanced” features and obstacles, was briefly shut down Sunday after the accident, the newspaper reported.

The last reported death at the resort in the winter came in 2016 when a Colorado businessman died a week after hitting his head during a fall.
